Urinary Incontinence

What is Urinary Incontinence?

Urinary incontinence is a condition in which there is involuntary loss of urine to a degree that interferes with a person’s social life and/or compromises their hygiene. It is estimated that approximately 20-40% of the female population experience incontinence in their lifetime. In fact, the prevalence of urinary incontinence in women over 40 years of age is 15-20%.

In our center we manage urinary incontinence by offering state-of-the-art minimally invasive surgical techniques that allow a hospital stay of less than 24 hours and a fast recovery (usually 1-2 weeks).

A proper evaluation and accurate diagnosis coupled with the appropriate surgical corrective procedure and/or medical management leads to resolution of the incontinence in the vast majority of our patients.

Some of the urogenital /reconstructive procedures we perform entirely through minimally invasive (laparoscopic) techniques are:

  • Burch or Marshall/ Marshetti/Krantz (retropubic bladder neck suspension) and paravaginal repair
  • Vaginal vault suspension (sacral colpopexy)
  • Anterior and posterior repair
  • Vesico-vaginal or recto-vaginal fistula repair
