COMMON CAUSES
Infertility is a common problem in today’s society, affecting approximately 10-15% of couples. There are multiple causes, with the most common being unexplained infertility, followed by male factor, problems with ovulation, tubal damage, cervical abnormalities, and endometriosis. Endometriosis is a major cause of damage to the female pelvic organs, especially to the ovaries and fallopian tubes. If left untreated, endometriosis increases the risk of infertility. As well, studies have shown decreases in the success of IVF for patients with endometriosis.

Dr Camran Nezhat’s research has revealed that majority of the patients with unexplained infertility have endometriosis. These patients have excellent pregnancy rate following his treatments especially in patients with failed IVF.

Some of the more typical conditions that Dr. Nezhat treats include:
– Endometriosis
– Uterine Fibroids (myomas)
– Ovarian cysts
– Abnormalities of the uterus (uterine septums, uterine scarring)
– Tubal disease, damaged tubes, and surgically tied tubes
– Unexplained infertility

– Uterine polyps

UNEXPLAINED INFERTILITY:
Some cases of unexplained infertility may be:
– Undiagnosed endometriosis
– Undiagnosed low-grade pelvic infections
– Undiagnosed ovulatory dysregulation

However, in Dr. Nezhat’s experience he has found that the majority of patients classified as having unexplained infertility proved to be cases of undiagnosed endometriosis.

Whatever the final diagnosis, the good news is that all of the conditions listed above can very often be successfully resolved either medical or surgically.

Mild endometriosis CAN interfere with fertility

Mild endometriosis CAN interfere with fertility
A common misconception is that mild endometriosis can’t interfere with infertility. Yet dozens of studies demonstrate that when mild endometriosis is surgically removed, patients experience almost immediate increases in fertility, including live births within a year of surgery.
